Last year we posted our list of all of the EVs (Electric Cars) available for sale in New Zealand at the beginning of 2021. You can view this 2021 EV list here. This is our updated list of 2022 EVs being sold in NZ. It also includes YouTube video reviews of each Electric Car model.
2021 was a big year in Electric Cars and EV sales in New Zealand, helped by the introduction of the NZ Governments Clean Car Discount scheme. This has brought down the cost of purchasing a new Electric Vehicle. More and more manufacturers are introducing EVs as they shift away from fossil fuels. The costs should continue to drop as EVs on NZ become the default vehicle of choice.
We are passionate about electric vehicles, and the many advantages they offer over cars that use internal combustible engines. EVs are the future for the Car and Vehicle fleet in NZ.
The current makes and models of electric cars NZ currently for sale in the New Zealand market at the time of publishing this article include the following brands and models. Our 2022 Electric Cars NZ list only contains pure electric vehicles. So it doesn't contain hybrids, or plugin hybrids, which both have combustion engines in them. The YouTube video reviews of each Electric Car model are of overseas models, so they may differ from the specifications of the New Zealand models.

This is a full size SUV with two electric motors. The Audi E-Tron NZ range starts from around $152,000 NZD + ORCs, and range up in price to the late $200k's.There have been additional models added over the last year. BMW i3 NZ
This is a small compact car from BMW. The BMW i3 NZ starts from around $79,000 NZD + ORCs. This has an estimated range of up to 260km in everyday use. More info on the BMW i3 NZ website.

BMW iX xDrive50 Sport & BMW iX xDrive40 Sport
These are new high priced EV SUVs from BMW ranging in price up to almost $200,000. This has an estimated range of up to over 600km on the top model. More info on the BMW iX NZ website.
Hyundai EVs
Hyundai are becoming a more popular electric car producer in New Zealand with both a small SUV and and car. Hyundai tend to have both fossil fuel and electric versions of the same same model.
Hyundai Kona Electric Car NZ

Jaguar I-Pace NZ

Kia EV6 NZ
This is Kias new EV for 2022 is the Kia EV6. The Kia EV6 is coming to the NZ market later in the year. The new Kia EV is the sister car of the Hyundai Ioniq5. Kia have just announced pricing, and model start from $72,990 + ORC for the Air RWD, with a 394km max range. Other Kia EV6 models include the Air RWD Long Range for $78,990 + ORC (max range of 528km), The Earth AWD Long Range Dual Motor for $94,990 + ORC (max range of 506km), and the GT-LIne Long Range Dual Motor for $106,990 + ORC (max range of 484km). The Polestar 2 is an EV that is made by Polestar. Polestar which is an electrci carmaker partially owned by the Volvo Car Group. AS of writing this, the Polestar 2 NZ starts from $69,900, with the top model priced at $93,900 This has an estimated range of up to 470km WLTP cycle. More info on the Polestar 2 NZ website. The new Polestar 3 is due to come out before the end of 2022.
Porsche EVs
Porsche Taycan NZ
The Porsche Taycan NZ is a premium electric sports car that appear to compare well in both looks and performance with some of the top Tesla models. It comes in a range of different models, with the more expensive models having better performance specs. The Porsche Taycan NZ starts from around $179,000 NZD + ORCs and goes up to the mid $300k. Renault Zoe NZ
This is a small compact EV from the French brand Renault. The Renault Zoe NZ starts from around $64,000 NZD + ORCs. It comes in two models, the Renault Zoe Zen R110 and the Renault Zoe Intens R135. The range is in the mid 300km range. More info on the Renault Zoe NZ website.
Tesla NZ
Tesla is one of the main reasons electric cars are now so popular. They have managed to make electric cars cool again, with top styling that makes their models look as good as, if not better than regular and luxury combustion engine cars. Teslas are also packed full of the latest tech features, which in most cases surpass the EV competition. Tesla are to electric cars, what Apple were to mobile phones.
Tesla Model 3 NZ
The Tesla Model 3 is Teslas entry electric car model. It is however a luxury car, so it is still higher priced than many electric cars being sold in New Zealand. Tesla have recently released a new 2021 Model 3, which improves on it even more. The <odel 3 comes in a range of different models with different upgrades, including longer range and higher performance models. The video below is of the Performance Model. At the time of writing, the Standard Tesla Model 3 NZ starts from about $77,000 NZD + ORCs. This has an estimate range of about 500km, and a 0-100km/h time of 5.6 seconds. Tesla Model S, Model X NZ
These are higher spec cars, that cater more to the higher luxury market. The Model Y is a Telsa have released some new updated models in 2021. In many cases they are higher spec with better ranges. More info on the other Tesla EV Models sold in NZ.

Model S Plaid & Model X Plaid NZ
These are new higher performance models with very high acceleration. These range in price up to almost a quarter of a million dollars. More info on the other Tesla EV Models sold in NZ.
Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y was released in June 2022. The Model Y is the SUV version of the cheaper model 3, and starts from $78,500, so it qualifies for the Clean Car discount. More info on the other Tesla Model Y NZ.
Volkswagen EVs
Volkswagen E-Golf NZ
This is a small compact EV from the Volkswagen. The Volkswagen E-Golf NZ starts from around $70,000 NZD + ORCs. It has an estimated range of up to 220km, and a 0-100km/h time of approximately 9.6 seconds. More info on the Volkswagen E-Golf NZ website.
